Good thread. The offsets are as follows

6.5" rims have 34 mm offset, translating to 5.09" backspacing with closest matching offset being 5+2
8" rims have 48 mm offset, translating to 6.39" backspacing with closest matching offset being 6+1

Feel free to check my math

Yes. Using a backspace calculator these figures are correct. But using a backspacing calculator there is an extra .5" added for the lip width on each side so on the rear of an 8" wheel width it would end up with 2.61" to the outside. This is why I am figuring with a 5+2 7" wide wheel and going to a narrower 10" wide tire in the rear a 1" spacer will be reqired. I'll find out though.

Post update: Spacers are not needed in the rear of the RMAX4 if going to a square tire setup.

Only thing I see is if you want to use a 7" wheel in the rear to replace the 8" you might want to use a 5+2 to keep the rear vehicle width close to stock. The stock 8" is 5.9+2.1 and the closest on the outside dimension is the 5+2 .

The fronts are 4.6+1.9 so like you said the 5+2 is closest on outside dimension but you might need to check the clearance on the back side at full drop and turned to lock since the 5+2 will go .4" farther in than the stock wheel.

Exactly. I prefer to calulate as you did using measured wheel width. I get the same measurements that you have. Not only will I have the .4" more inside but going to a 10" wide tire in the front over the 9" wide oem tire on the front of the RMAX4 also get an extra .5" there. It wasn't a problem on the X4 though with stock suspension plus Yamaha offers 14X7 5+2 wheels with 30X10X14 square wheels and tire setups on their accessory site for the RMAX4 so again this shouldn't be an issue.

Ok. So something else that I have been meaning to post in regards to the last couple posts as well as just being informative in general. The Tusk Teton beadlocks the I picked up for the RMAX fall in line with most of the wheels out there by not being true to size when it comes to their offset. Most wheels on the market these days seem to be this way. They are close though. Everywhere you look these wheels are stated to be either a 5+2 or a 4+3. The 5+2 Tetons are actually a 30mm offset wheel which actually makes them a 4.68+2.32 wheel. Which means that the backspacing will be almost exactly the same in the front as the OEM wheels. Only a .09" difference over the OEM 4.59+1.91 wheel. Now I don't know what the actual offset of the 4+3 Teton is because I have not seen a wheel or box in person and my internet searches have came up empty but the more information on what the wheels out there are actually sized at is better for everyone. So everybody post up this info. as you come across it.

According to Yamaha's first live stream on the RMAX, the RMAX4 can run a square tire setup (no mention of spacers).

Looking at their upgraded tire/wheel kits, you'll see the same SKU for RMAX2/4

Do you know about how far into the video it talks about that. Don't have time to watch an hour long talk show. lol

I still think to keep the track as I would desire it to be a 1" spacer will be ideal. I have been using a really cool offset calculator that gives great visuals of what gains you will get using different tire/wheels sizes. It shows I will get added width in the front but not the back with my square setup without spacers. And with the spacers I will get just a little more width in the rear than the front. Which is what I want.

For a perfectly straight track yes but I don't think there is such a thing as a .5 inch spacer unless you use the shim type but then you dont grab as many threads on your lugs. A .5" bolt on spacer you leave too much stud hanging out and it might hit the back of the wheel so it couldn't sit flat. With the setup I plan on running I should be just over a half inch wider on each side in the rear which is what I want. You will never know just by looking at it and it should slide easier in the rear and give more stability. I had my X4 the same way and it was amazing.

#18 ·
Oh for sure. I had 1.5" on my X4 as well and loved it but I also ran a +10mm offset wheel which was closer to a 4+3. The +30mm I am going to run on the RMAX is closer to a 5+2 so I think 1" will be sufficient. We'll see though whenever I get it back. I love the smell of new tires but it's getting old in the living room after a week and a half. LOL

So I got the RMAX back from the dealership yesterday afternoon and installed my new wheel and tire setup first thing. Let me say that I'm very pleased with the results. The fit is fantastic. Exactly what I was wanting. The stance it has is great. It just looks right. Where the tires sit with regards to the fenders is what I would hope to get these days on a new machine right from the factory like the RMAX2 comes equipped. The DOT radials ride so smooth as well. Feels like a truck when taking off or backing up. Can't wait to get them on the mountain and see how they do.

Thanks! Yes. 1" spacers in the rear only. I tried to take some pics last night of how the front and rears line up. I need to take some in the daytime though and get some measurements. Its been raing outside today though so I'll do it sometime in the next couple days.

I was hoping we would have more already as well. There is a lot more RMAX2's out there than the 4 seaters though and they come with a nice 30" square tire setup so most owners probably aren't in a hurry to run out and change their wheels and tires. I am surprised we haven't seen more RMAX4's go with new square setups though. RMAX's are expensive machines though most probably want to wear the stockies out before dropping that extra coin. I like to keep them as a good spare set myself.

Well I got the tires mounted on the new wheels, and the rears installed. Fronts will have to wait until this weekend as I'm doing some work and don't want the fronts on yet.
Do your homework before buying any tire/wheel combo as the generic sizes/weights listed are not always correct.
I wanted more height without much more weight, and did not want the car any wider. I did not want light flimsy tires or cheap weak wheels either. The new tires are 10 ply and the wheels have a 1600 lb rating.
The width is the same 64" as stock.
Wheels are Method 409 in steel gray 15x7 5+2 w/38mm offset. weight 15.7 lbs.
Tires are GBC Terra Masters 31x10R-15 listed weight 37 lbs, actual weight 38.4 lbs.
Stock wheel/tire weighs 52.8 lbs, GBC claims the tire weighs 37.7
New set up right at 54 lbs for a 1.2 or so lb gain per.
They measure just over 30" at 14 psi vs 29" for the stock tires.
I really like how they look and fit, can't wait to try them out.

I had the Terra Masters and had 2 tires get sidewall rips from a small steep hill climb on the X2
I was running 12 or 15 psi.
They had strengths and weaknesses like many tires.

Any one know approximately what the Rmax 2 wheel offset is?

I was thinking 5-2 but if the Rmax 4 front is 5-2 at 9” wide then I’m now thinking 4-3.
When I do the wheel and tire package builder on ROCKY MTN ATV for the Rmax 2 it also only offers 4-3.

My nephew has brand new system 3 st3 bead locks and 32” bf Goodrich km3s he’s selling for a great deal but I think they are 5-2 and I don’t want to end up narrower.

In the very first post in this thread I listed the stock wheel offsets for both the RMAX2 & RMAX4.

So system 3 st3 14x7 5-2 wheel says 30mm offset.
That’s 10mm wider than stock so pretty close to 3/4” wider overall (y)

#38 ·
That would be close for a +30mm offset wheel wheel. There's only a 4 mm difference in offset but an aftermarket wheel is 7" wide instead of 6.5. I put 5+2 wheels on mine that are actually +30mm. That along with a 10" wide tire ( the four-seater only has 9 inch wide tire stock in the front ) widened my front end to 66".
