I am not worried about HP loss more concerned with excessive heat.
After several months, I have no excessive heat at all and it runs as it should. Although I did put a sheet of aluminum diamond plate above the new muffler to keep the floor from getting warm since it was completely exposed.

Mounting bracket for the muffler is finished waiting on exhaust tip and 2” elbows all SS. I decided to mount the new muffler under the old muffler, using this bracket to go through the two existing holes in the frame. it’s gonna be 2 inches OD out. The exhaust tip has a 2 inch OD without spark arrestor, and I believe the muffler has an inch 1-7/8 OD. It will be all welded with SS wire. I didn’t have any black paint so it got painted silver lol.

Anyone that’s done this up in the north Idaho area? Looking for ways to quiet the rig down for the kiddo (3yo) and the dogs.

Already invested in Sena headsets/helmet comm and they help a ton but the kiddo being in a helmet is probably not getting nearly the same noise reduction as we are

This did nothing for the 850. I even wrapped the pipe with header wrap still didn’t notice any sound difference.
That's crazy. Although I have heard that stock the 850's are quieter than the 1000's. Still common sense tells you no matter which engine or vehicle, adding another muffler would have to quiet it down. That is really bizarre. You must be getting a lot of engine/clutch noise and the muffler wasn't the issue.

It's kind of both with the 1000's as mine is not as quiet as I would like at higher speeds mainly due to the engine/clutch being close. But idle and low speeds is MUCH quieter. Sucks since you spent the $$$ and time on it.

If he did what the OP did there was no muffler added, just a longer tail pipe. 👍

He shows pictures 4 posts above of a 2nd muffler.

I never have had any condensation, but I am in super low humidity area of Arizona also .

I just ordered my muffler, bent pipe and tip, hopefully this helps with the noise!
Oh it will, especially at lower speeds. Good luck with it.

I brought my Rmax4 to a muffler shop last week and had this work done (same as post #69) and if you are considering doing this.. Just do it. HUGE difference in Decibels. At idle, it's ultra quiet. On acceleration a significant improvement. But the biggest improvement is the obnoxious drone when you let off the throttle and the engine braking engages, is completely gone.

I went with the same promax muffler recommended earlier in this thread and am very happy with it.
Labour was $300 CAD and the muffler was around $120.
Hope this helps others that are tired of their ears bleeding riding this machine.
Cheers!

Is that the Weller tip you added the muffler to? I am getting ready to do this but wasn't sure if I wanted to use the stock tip or the Weller one I have. I have the muffler and will be taking it to the shop this week. Was there a decent reduction in the decibles? Thank you.

Personally, I wouldn't ruin the Weller tip for little to no gain. I also have the Weller tip, but put the stock one back on when I had the 2nd muffler installed. The way the guy did mine, it is super easy to remove the 2nd muff and put the Weller back if so desired.

Glad to hear it. So many are very apprehensible about it, but it is amazing the difference. I laughed the first time I heard mine after I started it.

Thank you. That is what I was planning on doing.

The only reason I purchased the Weller tip is that I have the Weller tuning module. I am in New Mexico and wanted to tune it to use a lower octane fuel. We don't have a lot of choices here and can normally run lower octane due to the altitude. It definitely lowered the operating temps.
