Maybe momentum would work. I hit one like the other video in my X4 with momentum and still ended up on the rear with the noise in the air. Only difference was I was over and top of the obstacle when the Wolvy decided it wanted to stare at sky.
After looking at the video a few times, I saw that I never lifted a tire until I started to roll back. I think the key is don’t roll back.

It was 100% driver error. We were on harder trails all morning, and the Rmax was doing more than I could ask of it. I’d been sick for a couple days, but had a ride lined up with @Budro2 and his brother. The night before I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to go. I’m glad I did though. I had a blast, and learned a lot. Here’s one from earlier in the day.
What a great day.

After getting home and reviewing the footage, what I see is that your not getting out of the throttle soon enough when you abort the mission.
Even the previous attempt before going over, your tires are still spinning when you slide back and hit bottom. That pulls your fronts up. When you went over, they weren’t spinning but you let off too late. The wet clutch was still engaged as a result, which is just like being on the brake. The tires didn’t roll.
I almost did that very thing 3 years ago on the bypass for You Gotta Be Nuts. I rolled backwards about 3 ft while teetering and the front finally came down.
There’s a very thin line between committing and aborting. If you feel yourself going backwards at all while in the throttle, you gotta get off the throttle fast and completely to release that clutch.
You may make it with more momentum but I still think you’ll pull the front tires up and get to hopping pretty bad.
I sure enjoyed it though!

Yeah, it seemed like it kept pulling for a couple seconds after I let off the throttle. Kind of like how people describe what happens in the KRX. I wonder if it has anything to do with what we talked about with my one way bearing sticking.

Makes a lot of sense actually, if you think you’re gettin out of it sooner.
That would be 2 indicators you’ve got now!

Yeah a couple seconds may be a slight exaggeration. When things are going that fast everything seems to take forever. It was definitely reacting differently than it always has though. I was worried I might get to the top of a climb and let off to settle the front and it would stall. I never even considered it wouldn’t roll back like normal.

You hit that exactly like Eric did in the goat when he road a wheelie over the top. It was a traction issue. Your front is pretty light and with all the sand that day on the rock, the back just didn’t hook up. That said, I turn driver just before going up over the high point where you went and go across that at a bit of an angle.
You may have been able to roll back 2 feet and bump over it but after your tail stand 5 min earlier I didn’t want chance anything. I think that one can be done on a day that the wall isn’t loaded down with sand.
I hate the redemption obstacles because it gets in your head even worse.
Thanks for posting it. I hadn’t seen it yet!

In my head, after watching it 289 times, I think I should’ve stayed in it a little longer. Let the tires heat up more. Maybe eased up the throttle a little. Not like cowboy, but a slow bump in tire speed. I was stable. Kind of feel like I pussied out on that one.

Yeah I agree, but it was me that stopped you!

I should’ve told you no. Lol.

2 years ago, when I first saw that obstacle, I told my wife we are never doing that one. It was my old middle monkey. I guess for the moment, it still is.

Good job Ron.
Man I hate those lateral slides!
Would've liked to see you try after the line was on, I know your momentum was gone but so was the tire spin.
Yeah, I’m pretty mad at myself for not doing that, but after the butt flop, and this happening on the very next obstacle, I was pretty frustrated. I was 100% sure I had it, until I didn’t. It’s warm enough today, but I don’t have anyone to go over there. Tonight I have friends coming in, but the temperature drops like 5 degrees tomorrow. Also, they’re Glamis princesses, and probably wouldn’t even go up there with me. I need to get it done before I leave here.

I didn’t see it until late last night. If you’d have asked me how long I sat spinning on that rock, before I saw it, I’d have told you at least a minute. Crazy how time slows down.
