I have one on my hard coated windshield with a manual wiper, haven't used it much but the windshield has been very scratch resistant if you use caution cleaning it and use a good plastic polish to keep it clean and keep stuff from sticking to it to hard. Also only clean horizontally, no circular motions or you get swirl marks that catch the sun and look like crap.

Thats why I have a short (1/3rd) maybe called half but i can look over it. In rain or other dirty situations you can't clean the screen and its a Wind Brake as well slowing you down. this is not an SUV. Meant to be open IMO

My window deflect enough of everything (bugs, wind etc) making it quite pleasant.

Any wiping action need lots of water and/or a totally soaking soapy rag to lightly clear and clean the surface. Unless its raining hard there still is grit on the windshied which is Poly (plastic) and not glass like an auto. So it will scratch. For me I'd be looking over the clear deflecting portion of my window.

Seal\wax your windshield often and carry a sprayer. NEVER use a wiper even on a hard-coated windshield like the others have stated.

I likely should do that with my short one. I'd be wiping it clean now and then or washing it.

What do you seal with?

I use OptiSeal and then wax on top of that. Ceramic coating is the rage nowadays.
