TORRANCE, Calif. (June 11, 2015) — Honda today announced the addition of two brand-new full-size side-by-side models–the groundbreaking Pioneer 1000 and Pioneer 1000-5–to its 2016 lineup. With class-leading displacement and payload, a 6-speed fully automatic Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) and a full list of features and options, the flagship Pioneer 1000 promises to raise the bar in terms of power, performance and capability in both work and recreation applications.

“We’re very excited about the all-new 999cc engine we’ve developed for these new Pioneers,” said Lee Edmunds, Manager of Motorcycle Marketing Communications at American Honda. “We’ve also added the industry’s only fully automatic mechanical transmission–the 6-speed Dual Clutch Transmission. With steel gears, the DCT offers true engine braking, seamless shifting and a smooth, reliable transfer of power.”

I see all this talk about HP. Additional HP in the wolverine wouldn't help anything. Its made for the trails. Hell, a guy that rides with us has a little honda 300 and he is right with us the entire time. He has been probably been riding for 30 years though.

I can attest that the Maverick I had with all the HP did nothing to help on the trails.

All that power used at the wrong time will just twist most things apart. This happens with the 1000 Polaris as well. I saw an abandoned 1000Turbo that looked like this.

Not dissing CanAm as they are good machines but there is a point when too much power is a bad thing.

I buy my offroad machines based on longevity, reliability, and value. Then sometimes I get angry with the crowd of people who diss Yamaha/Honda/Kawasaki for not having enough power, this or that, but then I just laugh when I see pictures like that. Theres a market for everyone person who wants to buy a side by side nowadays, and because I only need to use a 700 class machine with a bed doesn't mean its "slow" or junk and its definitely not bought to go out and stomp RZR's or Can Am's. Its like comparing race quads to utility quads, or dirtbikes to atv's, dunes to trail riding, they serve different purposes for different environments. I get so sick of seeing 1000cc big HP SxS owners and all they do is use there Ego and $$ to talk instead of ride.

I have a 2011 RZR 900. My Wolverine is a bit faster on the tight trails mostly due to the amazing suspension. Anything over about 35 mph the long travel and long wheelbase makes the RZR do much better. The Pioneer 1000 will be in a different class and I think everyone will be surprised with the performance. We should see some reviews and performance videos next month.

Yamaha oughta come out with a utility bike like this one, and put a big motor in it like Honda is. I understand they are going to come out with a sport side by side first though.... I wouldn't mind having that Honda 1000. But $2000 more dollars than what ive already spent, dangit!

Sort of, narrowed it down to two wires, it's either the red or white one that goes to the 12v. My luck I'll cut the wrong one first, then have to fix my mistake. I decided to wait till I don't have two little kids trying to help me. So I guess no, I didn't get it sorted yet, lol. Any chance you want to come up to Pennsylvania and do it for me, you can bring your wolverine!

It's a rough country light bar, I'll try and get a better pic for ya. Too close to winter....it's only August. The fall is the nicest time of year to ride up here. Winter is fun too in the snow, if you don't mind the cold. What would be fun would be if we could organize a forum member ride sometime. Just dreaming on that, we got members from Florida to Alaska. It would be tough to pull off, but fun though.

I solder, or strip away the insulation, take a point (like a small screw driver) and push through the exposed wire making a hole. I then twist the wire being spliced, push it through the hole, squeeze it with pliers and twist it around the wire where the hole was.. Then use black tape and zip ties to ensure it's a solid connection.

Like this, pic

Twist tight, wrap with black tape, put a small zip tie around black tape. It will never come apart.

At my age I am looking for something with all the amenities in a light duty utility. Like a dump bed, turf mode, tilt, EPS, and great handling and smooth riding suspension for semi spirited riding, and I thought maybe the Honda would work but my guess is the suspension is going to be typical utility type. It might be Honda's definition of sporty but to the average person that has driven something besides a Honda it would be typical utility suspension.

Viker,

I can tell you that the seating on the new one appears to be the same as the 700. It is great for lumbar support, but keeps you sitting in a very upright position. I have read post where people think that it is good on long rides because of the support. I personally did not like it because it keeps you so up and down. The backrest is too far forward and resting your head against the headrest is difficult. I don't know about the new one, and I never adjusted the suspension on my old one cause I only owned it for 80 miles before trading for a Wolverine. I would say it was better than my Rhino 660, but still threw you around pretty good on bumpy roads. My main complain with the Pioneer is the cabin is too small. Your right up on the wheel with little legroom. As far as dump bed, I was resistant to getting rid of the dump bed too and thought I needed one. You gotta ask yourself how often you really use it? I had the one in my Pioneer half full of dirt, and the shock couldn't raise it up for dumping because of the weight and had to rake it out the back anyway. You cannot argue Honda reliability, but Yamaha is on the same level too.
