Shopping around.. Noise?

Hi Guys,

I'm shopping around for a new side by side. Never actually owned one before but I am a Yamaha person myself. I owned a Yamaha snowmobile and I currently own a Yamaha dirt bike. I feel like now is the time to jump into the SxS market as I keep hearing about all the fun people are having on theirs and I'd love to join the fun.

As I said, I am a Yamaha person, but i've been doing some digging, watching videos and whatnot and I hear the Yamaha Viking is excessively noisy to the point you can barely hear yourself think. I've heard this from people who own them first hand and I've seen it on forums online.

Right now it seems as though i'm caught between the 2015 Kawasaki Teryx and the new Wolverine. Noise is going to be a selling point for me. Does anyone know what kind of noise these new machines emit? A friend of mine bought a Polaris Ranger based on it being so quiet and I would also enjoy having hearing left when I get home from a ride.

I love the look of the new Wolverine and I'd love to continue on purchasing Yamaha machines so the question remains. How loud are these bad boys? Also, what kind of power do these things have? The wolverine seems to be taking a lot of heat over the single cylinder engine, I know its DOHC (not a mechanically inclined guy) so that's basically speaking a foreign language to me. How will this stack up again say the Teryx's twin engine?

The performance should be close with the nod going to the Wolverine with it's 200 pound + lighter weight.

My guess is that the Yamaha will be quieter than the Teryx. The quiet kit for the Viking seemed to do pretty well so I am sure the Wolverine will get something equivalent.

The ride quality on the Wolverine should be MUCH better than the Teryx.

The Wolverine will probably have less engine heat in the cab than the Teryx.

The Wolverine looks business like and manly. The Teryx, well, it has a look all its own. JMHO lol.

When the wolverine becomes available just drive them both and make up your mind. I pretty much already know which one I would buy,,, well I know which one I wouldn't buy in the 2 seat category.

I hope you're right, if you are, I know which one i'll be going with. Although I don't like the idea of having to buy an extra quiet kit just to be able to think it is always an option if the ride is really loud. What is the kit all about anyways? Do you have any links I might be able to take a look at?
I agree with everything you say!

The kit was standard on the 2015 and was retrofitted to dealer stock 2014 models. I don't know when it came available for the 2014 models.
I think there is a thread on one of the Viking forums that details the kit.

I think the sound proofing will be designed into the Wolverine instead of added on.
