Shock and awe. I thought Colorado would be doing this before Utah. I weep for the future.

Sucks, but my understanding was this came about as a compromise preventing many permanent trail closures. I don't mind education but I don't like the extra excuse for DNR to stop otherwise law abiding citizens.

Welcome to the club... Wisconsin has had these safety education laws for 30+ years.
Not really a bad thing to teach kids a few good safety lessons.
I am conflicted here... lol
I like Freedom , but I also like kids safe. Some parents don't do a great job teaching , and those kids ride trails MY kids and I ride.. so....

That is very Surprising they didn't "grandfather" the adults , and are making every age group take a test. That seems a bit ridiculous.

i don't think it's a bad idea. i mean look at how many people jump into these $25k+ machines and roll them over within 50 miles (sometimes less)?

however every red-neck out there will pass this class with flying colors because they have been offroading since they got their first powerwheel lol

I agree, I think this one is a good thing. Too many idiots buying these with no experience. They trash them or the trails and then trails get shut down. Know they will know and hopefully be responsible.

Sounds like it was a bit of a compromise after Utah voted down Senate Bill 168 which would have allowed towns to set curfews and street usage laws for OHV's.
I guess they figure they can educate politeness and manners in OHV operators to keep off the throttles and turn down the music in residential areas, pick up their trash and generally be good guests in these resort towns.

So really it’s a common sense test that anyone knows all the correct answers to.
It’s forces everyone to read and answer the material.
The vast majority already live by the rules and the few bad actors bring this crap upon us.

Thanks for bringing it to our attn.
Moab will be a hot spot for checking on it.
I was talking to my brother when you sent me the info last night and he wasn’t aware of it either.

I think this is awesome. They have outlawed side by sides in certain areas here because of people destroying habitat areas. You can ride all over CA/AZ deserts, there is no reason to destroy the motorcycle single tracks either. I came around a corner once and found four people dead from a head on collision with each other. Two RZR's. No helmets, no harnesses, obviously no training or experience.

Enforcing beginning February 2023. You will need it for SandHallow also.
As usual, the few imbeciles make life harder for everyone else.

The goberment to the rescue !!!!

If the government didn't get involved we could handle the bad apples ourselves. However, most people are too weak to live in the wild west anymore and need a nanny (government). I still think this a good idea though so the bad apples don't get our recreation shut down.

Interesting. Hadn't heard of this one yet.
Wonder what the requirements for out of town guests will be ?
You have to take the test and get the certificate as well unless you're part of a guided tour group.
Good discussion on how this came about:

I wonder where my 7 year old granddaughter, who’s new to riding, or my grandson, who’ll be starting to learn before he knows how to read, will fall in all of this.

In Wisconsin , unfortunately they would be unable to ride the trails. 50cc quads are rated for 10 years old and up , and that is how Wisconsin looks at it. They go by manufacturer sticker. I'm guessing it will be similar. Wisconsin also made it illegal to ride two up on a one up machine, so no kids on back.
