Has anyone else broke a front differential on a 2021 rmax? I happen to break mine winching out of a hole. Obviously, I overloaded the front tires, but I didn't think it was that much load. This is not a post looking for sympathy, but i was going to post the pictures of the rebuild as I assume no one has rebuilt one yet. A new one cost 1900. The only damage to mine was the spider gears and a small hole in the case...

Lol at no one believing me. I will post more pictures and the rebuild.... I broke the axle as well. At first I thought that was all...

You can see the hole in the case. I already welded it in the other picture. I was able to save all the parts except for 300 in spider gears.

you were lucky the broken teeth didnt go through the crown wheel & pinion.

i had this happen years ago in a landcruiser, i believe the spider gears broke after the shock load of the cv breaking in my case..

We belived you, we just like to see carnage. I personally wanted to see the insides and what it took to rebuild one.

As for the incident.... I went through my first mud pile and bottomed out on the skid plate. I winched out with a tree and I was using 4 wheel lock. My wheels were turned slightly and I think that's why the failure happend. Side load along with torsional load.

I think it was just a freak accident, I could see if you were in diff lock and pinned wide up climbing a hill but not in a slick mud hole.

She's back on the road! Good to go! Here are some pics from the reassembly. The only difficult part was getting the servo for the shift indicator lights just right.

Nice work! Did you have to shim anything to get a good gear pattern?

No. The ring and pinion remained the same and I reused the original bearings. I just had chunks of gears and didn't drive it. I checked them thourouly though.

What did you weld the case with that doesn’t look like steel I wouldn’t think it’s aluminum that kinda looks like pot metal. Must be stainless steel.
