My 550 Grizzly uses about an ounce of oil per 100 mi. It has almost 9000 mi on it. The Wolvie seems to use oil about the same.

So how is the project going? Did the new rings solve the issue?

Just got it all back together yesterday, runs fine.
It never really used any oil cruising around the home place, wont know if its fixed for sure till I get it out on the trails, but now the mountains are snowed in and I probably wont get to Moab till Feb or March, so..............

I've heard that the bottom ring could be made of the wrong material and wears to fast. He said there is a Technical bulletin for this problem in Canada only!

My friend told me that the issue with the rings is noticed after riding hard(fast) like we have in a lot of places. I'm going to talk to Yamaha dealer today about it. I lost the amount of oil from top of fill mark to the bottom of fill mark in one week of riding hard in Arkansas last week.

The TSB is out in the U S as well I’ve checked at my dealer already. I’ll be taking mine in this winter.

They will be checking your air filter and the intake for dust particles. If any are found it could result in it being denied to be fixed on them!

Massiveoverkill posted it in the oil consumption recall for 708cc thread but it has expired so you can no longer see it. You might check the grizzly forum as well. If your close to a dealer just go in and have them print it off for you!
