when I bought my polaris midsize the first maintenance was free, when you buy a new machine they charge freight and pdi and should be looking for loose bolts etc before selling it.

When I purchased my Wolverine near Altoona, PA I asked them how much the 1st service would be, $195 if you bought it there. I checked my email today and the Yamaha Survey was there. If you completed the survey they gave you the option of receiving one of three coupons. One was to get $50 off the first service of $250 or more. I called my dealer and they said that they would honor the coupon and give me $50 off of the $195.

I just purchased the machine last week and haven't put many miles on it yet. It will be a while until I need the service. The coupon is good for 4 months.

I referred to the owners manual about the valve clearance and it says they need checked every 1600 miles for the first 4800 miles and every 3200 miles after that. The dealer told me that they would be checked at the first service. Maybe they check them, maybe they don't. What they say and what they do may be two different things.

    Have a good day.

    Valve Clearance

I was at my local dealer yesterday buying some accessories and I asked about the first service and whether they checked valve clearance. I was told that they were checking the clearance on the 16s but not the 17s. How ever they were charging the same amount for both. Doesn't seem to make sense and isn't fair to charge the same amount. I told them that I would want my valve clearances checked if I was being charged the same.

I haven't made the appointment yet. They probably won't check them and say that they did.

I took the Wolverine in today for the 200 miles service. The cost was $195 plus the cost of fluids and parts. They did check the valve clearance. With the coupon for $50 off, the total was $205.

I had a squeak in the front end that happened when I turned to the left. They told me it was the metal in the brake pads. I wasn't satisfied with that answer, so they took the tire off and cleaned the brake pads. No more squeak. I left satisfied.
