But manufacturers design motors differently when they are for turbo use, like stronger components and better cooling and usually a lower compression ratio.
I doubt that Yamaha ever envisioned the Wolverine 850 would be turboed.
You never know about long term reliability on a turboed non turbo motor until you drive it for a while and skepticism is warranted.
For the most part the Yamaha platforms are overbuilt with longevity and durability in mind. That said the broken rods in the YXZ were a common sight for a while on the early turbo'd Z's but if you dug into those failures more and more there was alot of other contributing factors to why they would break than just being a weak link. For the X2/X4's the engines are supplied already with forged internals which is a great platform to begin with but you still need to find the limitations of what will and wont work when adding forced induction. So far so good though and really we have been putting more and more miles on first hand to try and find those limits before pushing to market. They are an extremely fun trail machine however and it has been really headache free up to this point even with the added boost. We look forward to seeing where we can go with these.

Pretty bold claims in this thread saying a turbo'd X2 will smoke a General, YXZ, Talon etc.. I'd love to see the proof of that. Maybe the first 50ft off the line. lol. It won't be beating anything in an 1/8 or 1/4mile. Anyway if I wanted a turbo'd hot rod side by side I would have bought a X3. Furthermore you can kiss goodbye the reliability of your X2/X4 by doing this. More HP = more wear and tear. No disputing that. The whole reason I bought an X2 was the reputation of Yamaha's being reliable.
