    Oil consumption recall for 708 cc engines

    I just realized this TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) is for Canada. A TSB will be issued for the US shortly.

    So, what is PID and how do you cross reference it with the VIN?

    Wow! 3 model years and "Expected high initial demand for these kits".
    I wonder how many units this affects?

    2016 708 R Spec
    Hunterworks sheave 18gr rollers .75 shim, factory spring
    Replaced decompression spring, dip stick, repaired header pipe at 1500 miles, new one at 5500 miles,
    top end rebuild at 3500 (new rings and valve seals) for excess oil consumption, tie rod ends at 5000.

    Looks like 4500 +/- total with 2016 being the majority with close 3k units

    The same bulletin was also issued for 16-18 Grizzlies and Kodiaks. That's a lot of units.

    So does this only apply if your unit is burning oil? Or am I misunderstanding the bulletin?

    Yes, it has to be consuming oil. Most of us with consumption issues have noticed it as early as after the 1st initial 200 miles service, so if you haven’t noticed any consumption with yours already it’s probably fine.

    Kudos to Yamaha for doing the right thing!!!! I’ve been waiting for since it’s been in the rumor mill for awhile now.

    Yep, I added 6, carried the 2, and divided by the square root of 16, and multiplied by 708 cubic inches and got nothing..... LOL

    Hopefully the US version works out better for us.
