Difference between Wolverine and Viking engines? Just curious really.

Sorry if I'm being lazy and this has been covered before, but I'm wondering what the performance differences are between the Wolverine 700 and Viking "700" engines. I know they are different, I believe the Wolverine engine is a new design and has a few more cc's, but really curious as to why these similar SxS's would have nearly the same displacement engine, but not the same one. I'm trying to talk my buddy into dumping his unreliable Polaris for a Viking.

Wolverine's is DOHC vs Viking's SOHC meaning it should rev better. They're within 2 HP of each other. My guess why they didn't use the DOHC in both is probably cost and the fact that the older engine's torque is sufficient for what the Viking was intended for.

I have both engines, the older 686cc 700 in my '15 Grizzly and the newer 708cc 700 in my '16 Wolverine, both work great for me. I'm assuming the 708cc 700 was manufactured due to EPA requirements for the Wolverine as a new model utv??? The older 686cc engine is a proven work horse that wouldn't keep me from buying a Viking.
