I called the local office today. (9702405300) all roads are open except Animas Forks to Eureka. They said there are alternative routes around that and possibly it will be open by the time you get here!

I asked where she gets the info and I didn’t get a definitive website but she said something along the lines of Alpine Loop Scenic Byway and Motor vehicle travel! I did a search on that and wasn’t smart enough to find anything but maybe you will.

Another lady gave me a site of ( www.fs.usda.gov/gmug ) I had no luck there either but didn’t spend much time searching.

You can call the above number Monday thru Friday 8-5 mountain time and they will look it up for you!

    Have fun!

Well we had another successful year on the alpine loop. Lots of avalanches and a couple good breweries.

Right around a 6 hr drive from Salina to Ouray which is your closest destination to begin the Alpine loop.

Milage wise I'd say 200ish? Not 100% sure. I know we've done 10 days total over 2 years and haven't seen every trail and marker.

Also, I'd recommend staying in Silverton as you can't access the Alpine Loop from Ouray without having to trailer your rig to somewhere. We stayed in town this year and I drove my Wolverine everywhere.

Dang I was close. I used the W.A.G method and added an hour for pulling a load. Lol
