Should I buy Warranty on used Wolverine

I have placed a deposit on a 2016 Rspec wolverine with 1400 miles. The dealership provided me the inspection report. One of the things that was done was to replace the head gasket. All of the running gear was tight. The question I have is whether to purchase an available bumper to bumper extended warranty. The cost of the machine was $7000. The cost of the two-year warranty is $1600. Any suggestions before picking it up?

$1600 is highway robbery imo. I bought my 5 year warranty on brand new machine for around 7 or 8 hundred and never needed it. Awesome machines that are very reliable.

Make sure it truly is "bumper to bumper" Usually just "non wear" items.

The terms of the warranty are actually pretty good. Zero deductible and good at any dealership. Also it doesn’t matter what modifications you have made to the machine, the warranty is still good. I just thought it was a little bit price prohibitive. This is a used machine but after looking at the inspection sheet, I really would doubt many other things would show up in what would basically be a year and a half of riding seasons

Also, did there inspection include checking to see if it smokes on the cold start up and if it’s one of the many that has the oil consumption problem. I’d want to know that! Yamaha has put out a service bulletin to take care of it but it has to pass there inspection 1st. If the previous owner ran it without service to the air cleaner and they find dust particles in the intake it will be declined to be fixed on them. Be sure it doesn’t have the smoking and consumption issue before purchasing. It wouldn’t stop me from buying it but if it does indeed have the issue then you’ll want it taken care of! Before the service bulletin came out I was quoted around 1200 to do new rings and valve stem seals.

Are the two things most renowned for issues on this machine the oil usage and the floorboard cracking? Are there other issues? I have owned the rzr And I had purchased an extended warranty with that unit which paid for itself three times over but for years I owned only Yamaha products so I’m headed back in that direction hoping I don’t have to keep a wrench in my pocket

There are a lot of documented cases of the oil pump nut backing off and engines then seizing or putting the rod through the block, and at low miles. Granted in the grand scheme of things it’s likely a small percentage but it is a reality. If your one that ends up with that then you’ll be glad for the warranty. There is no warning light or gauge to alert you to a loss of oil pressure. I’m not trying to scare you from buying it. I love mine but it’s an oil consumer from at least around the 300 mile mark but after 6 mo. Was up and I wish I had the warranty! I just hope it passes there inspection to be fixed. Another common issue is the radiator fan seizing up but that’s not to big a deal and there is a better aftermarket option from Hunterworks!
