Warn is going to be the most popular winch out there but I'm not a fan of them. There are cheaper winches that work well and are reliable, if not more reliable than Warn. I installed a Superwinch Terra 35 on my 2019 x2 with a KFI winch plate for under $250. I used Superwinch on my ATV's and never had any issues so I decided to stick with what has worked for me.

Like Grizztracks said, Warn will be the most popular as just about every dealer carries Warn, the Yamaha winches are also Warn. Now with that being said, there are plenty of others that work just as good. Just like tires, there is no "Best"!

I have a Superwinch Terra 45 Synthetic on my Wolvy. I have used it on the trail a couple of times to remove fallen trees but never been stuck to test for recovery but it has plenty of power. I used the KFI mounting plate and it's a very tight fit on the Wolverine but I got it in there. I recently bought a Viper 3500 Synthetic for my Grizzly 660 and have used that a couple of times to plow so no real test of its power. I feel like both of these winches are very nice quality and would buy again. I paid about $50 for the mounting plate and about $270 for the Superwinch. The Viper was a smokin deal at year-end and was about $220.

The "best" winch is the one that gets the job done when you need it.

If the winch is of high importance, then having a small snatch block, short tree strap, and a 1/2" clevis should be almost as important. You can catch the small snatch blocks on sale at times. KFI had them on sale for $9 about a year ago so I bought 6 of them for friends. We have used our winches more for lifting a tire off of the ground using a tree limb than for getting unstuck.

I have the winch in my signature....Moto-Alliance 4000 Viper synthetic. (got it for $200 on ebay bid and bought KFI plate on Amazon for $42 IIRC) It's my 3rd Moto winch plus one previous Warn. I carry a 6' lifting sling with a clevis and two snatch blocks. My nice snatch block is for synthetics and an old rough one for cables haha. The sling is good for the trees and around rocks and saves the rope as I do not like my rope hooked back on itself...weakens connection and can break the rope at hook. Also use a 20' tow strap to triangulate to something across trail for a center trail pull where necessary.
I want to add that PapaS is right on about snatch blocks. And if you have more than one snatch block in the group then you can rig a rope to go around a lot of obstacles, so everyone should have one IMHO. Saw them yesterday at Tractor Supply for $15 IIRC.

With 3 snatch blocks positioned properly, and usually an additional length of cable or rope, you can winch your Wolverine backwards using the winch mounted on the front of your Wolverine.

I have the Warn/Yamaha one they gave me with the promo offer in 2017. It's a vantage 3000. Haven't put it through much stress, but am confident it will do it's job when it needs to. I am partial to Warn, since I've had them on 4 jeeps, 2 ATV's, and the Wolverine. None of them have ever failed me.

Why is Warn the most popular? They weren't very popular at the Honda forums. Superwinch was big, and the other major brands. I have a connection that gets me a good discount on parts and accessories. I ordered a Superwinch, but a Kolpin is what arrived. I couldn't complain too much about it because I get a good price and ask for a lot. The Kolpin has served me well for three winters of snow plowing on 2 different machines.
